GLOBAL GOVERNANCE IN CRISIS -
DEVELOPMENT, A CORPORATE PRIVILEGE?
International colloquium:
28 May 2004, Brussels: Belgian Parliament by invitation of Senator Pierre Galand
This international colloquium aimED at three things:
Bring together the political, trade-union and civil society actors who are professionally concerned by the ever increasing influence of transnational corporations on international relations........
Submit to a process of critical reappraisal the instruments that define the relations between Corporations and the Rest of the World.........
Lay the foundation of linkages between the political, trade union and civil society actors with a view to redefine these relations...........
This supposes that we:
Assess the historical evolution of globalized capitalism........
Make an inventory of the instruments that can be opposed to the liberty of commerce and industry........
Pinpoint with precision, within the realm of corporate activities, the fields on which the "Corporate Social Responsibilities" approach has no grip and, accordingly, the international law instruments that could fill this gap, among which the right to development does appear, thanks to its historical credentials, to be one of the most promising avenues.
